Kylie Jenner's (In)Famous Pout

So I know this is probably jumping on the bandwagon, and as with all things in life, I am probably a little late, but...consider this a hop skip and a leap right onto that wagon! I have been a bit of a closet (or should that be Kloset?!) Kardashian fan for a little while now....they are my guilty pleasure. I know, but I just can't help it! And, as well as the original Kim, Kourtney and, my personal fave, Khloe (the SASS! <3), I have been loving the Kendall/Kylie Jenner duo of late...

Usually the attention is on Kendall, who has been sweeping the fashion world off it's feet lately. However, not to be outdone by her older sister, the internet has been loving talking about Kylie since pics started to appear of her with newly enlarged lips. Now, whether the result of surgery or of makeup (personally I think that the change from old Kylie to new Kylie is too radical to just be makeup), Kylie's lips certainly are luscious, and the colour she has been using, a muted, mauvey pink, is bang on trend with the 90's style revival. Rumour has it that Kylie usually uses Soar and Spice lipliner, and Brave and Velvet Teddy lipstick from Mac. Obviously since then they have all pretty much been sold out due to the Kardashian effect and, as Mac liners and lippies are also pretty pricey, I thought I would see if I could find a high street alternative to bridge the gap.

This is what I have found: Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in the colour East End Snob and Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in the colour Asia

I picked these up on impulse in Tesco, and I actually think this mauve toned pink is pretty bang on for emulating Kylie's perfect pout! And in any case, is a pretty yet slightly edgy lip colour which can be dressed up or down.

You can either wear these layered or on their own, but I find that the liner by itself can be a little drying, so make sure you apply lip balm before application, and carry some around with you for top ups. A major plus point for the liner (for lazy old me, anyway!) is the fact that it's automatic - no sharpener required, just twist up!

I am not a huge fan of the packaging of the lipstick, I think it's a touch outdated when compared to the Kate Moss lipsticks, however, the formulation and colour are great. It's well pigmented and feels moisturising. The finish is not glossy or shiny - there is a small amount of shimmer which is barely noticeable (I tend to dislike shimmery or pearly lipsticks), and just creates the effect of a natural sheen on the lips. The lasting power is pretty great too!

A plus for both is the price - the lipstick is around £5, so you can buy 3 for the price of one Mac lipstick; the liner is around £4, again about 1/3 of the price of a Mac liner. Plus Boots, Superdrug and Tesco are nearly always running offers like 3 for 2, so you can snap these up for even less.

Now, I am nowhere near having lips like Kylie, so whilst I have overlined my lips here for photos, in "real life" I have to be careful how far I push it, otherwise it looks too obvious. Here I have also paired it with similar eye and base makeup style to hers, as I am a little bit in love with her whole look lately. I am patiently waiting to try and catch Soar and Brave when they come back into stock (sign me up to that emailing list!) so if I manage to get my hands on one or both, I will do a comparison post for you.

So, what do you think - close but no cigar? Or a pretty good match? Let me know in the comments below if you have found any good dupes for "the Kylie lip", I would love to try some out!
